Is it possible to prevent data silos?
Asked 3 years ago
One of the most frustrating parts of data management is data silos. I find I always notice them when it's too late, and I have to use a lot of resources to break them down. Does anyone have any tips for preventing data silos? Is it even possible to prevent them?

Yes, it is very possible to prevent data silos. The challenge is that in a big organisation with different departments, managers only care about making their department work and do not care if they are working efficiently for the company's goals. Oftentimes, data silos are a management issue. I would advise that you have systems that promote working together and sharing information efficiently. This could be in the training system, reward packages, goals and agenda setting etc. You could also try to develop software that would encourage data sharing.
