What are some of the risks of siloed data?
Asked 3 years ago
Hi everybody. While I'm well aware that siloed data is risky, I want to know what exactly makes it so risky. Can someone give me a few examples of why everyone hates siloed data so much? If you could explain what causes data silos too, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Siloed data are liable to get lost irrecoverably because they are isolated and hoarded within a separated group. If the data are corporately shared it with help in preserving the data from loss. Also siloed data might cause confusion for a particular department of an organization. In an attempt to access a set of information, they may have to start searching various databases, and as a result, they may find an information they do not need for the moment. When data is siloed, oftentimes it makes cooperation very difficult in the company.

The predisposing factor of data silos is poor employee communication in an organization. Whenever departments fail to communicate freely, they tend to create business-related information gaps that cause data silos. This siloed data is the main hindrance in business operations and associative report analysis. Moreover, they revoke other employees' access to their related data, which can collapse the entire corporate framework.
